FAQ about Clayjex® Polymer Clay Earrings
What is polymer clay?
All Clayjex® earrings are handmade from oven-hardening modeling clay, known as polymer clay, from the brands FIMO STAEDTLER®, CERNIT® and SCULPEY®.
Why does Clayjex® only use polymer clay from the brands FIMO STAEDTLER®, CERNIT® and SCULPEY®?
Since 2006, STAEDTLER has stopped using phthalate-containing plasticizers, resulting in safer and more environmentally friendly modeling clay.
Are Clayjex® earrings free of lead and cadmium?
The quality of the materials is a top priority at Clayjex®. Therefore, all ear studs and connecting rings are free of lead and cadmium.
What is the manufacturing process for polymer clay earrings?
Shaping: The individual components of the earrings are hand-sculpted from modeling clay (FIMO STAEDTLER®, CERNIT®, SCULPEY®) in various colors, textures, and designs. During curing in an oven at 110 degrees Celsius, the plastic powder gels in the modeling clay and, after cooling, forms a dimensionally stable final product. Despite its high stability, the cured material remains flexible and supple, making the earrings extremely comfortable to wear.
Finishing: After baking, the earpieces are sanded to remove any imperfections. They are then washed and coated with a layer of resin or topcoat to protect them from dirt and water and increase their durability.
Assembly: Finally, the individual pieces are put together to create a unique and beautiful piece of jewelry.
